What Is Modular Extruded Aluminum?

Extruded aluminum profile is aluminum alloy transformed into cross-sectional framing called profile. The extrusions in the framing enables modular design principles to be engineered into the project. All of the T-slotted aluminum profiles have inclined groove flanks engineered into the profile designs. These inclined groove flanks ensure that connections and fasteners take advantage of the controlled elastic deformation, maximizing the strength of each connection.

There are three profile weight classifications: Standard, Light and Economy. Each are used for their own specific applications and many times they are used cohesively. By utilizing multiple weight profiles in the design and build, you are able to save on project costs, while having a fully-functional piece of equipment.

Standard aluminum profile is the strongest of the three profile weights. It is also the heaviest option. Standard Profiles are recommended for linear motion applications.

The expansive system of profiles are slow-extruded to a high straightness tolerance, enabling MB Kit Systems’ engineering team to build the most complex applications. Our profile selection includes more than 150 different variations of T-slotted extruded aluminum profiles, which all fall into three profile lines. These profile lines are referenced by a number corresponding to the T-slot groove dimension. This ranges from the light-duty L5 profiles up to the heaviest-duty profile, L8.

Extruded Aluminum Solutions

L8 Profile

L8 is the base design for all T-slotted extruded aluminum designs. Being robust and strong it is the most popular line of aluminum profile because the high-volume of compatible components and accessories, making L8 profiles suitable for most applications. The three profile line variants and various sizes are included with many of L8’s profile variations. Satisfy virtually all of your construction needs using L8 by configuring or adding components into the 8mm groove such as polycarbonate panels to wire mesh.

L8 Extruded Aluminum Profile

L6 Profile

Mid-range sized line with high structural strength. Profile available in Standard and Light weight options. L6’s T-slotted groove is 6mm. Included in design where specifications require a light, yet strong structure. While there are fewer options available in this size, it is a very functional line to use for the correct application.

Best Uses for L6 Profile

For crowded and compact spaces. Lightweight guarding, small enclosures and structures are common uses for this line.


Lower cost, strong, complimentary profile with multiple options.

L6 Extruded Aluminum Profile

L5 Profile

L5 is the smallest line option offered. Best used for the smallest-sized applications. Despite the dimensional size of of L5 profile being considerably smaller than L8, it is still a very structurally sound material. This line is often used in situations where high loads are not applicable. It is commonly used in conjunction with other profiles to save material cost, while meeting specified project requirements. Available with open and closed grooves for a more attractive appearance.

Often used in conjunction with other profile lines. Small enclosures, low-load requirements, and support beams.
